Every career journey is different, but our onboarding process at Residential Healthcare Group ensures that each new member of our team feels empowered to excel here. The in-depth training is just the start of the comprehensive onboarding, with additional mentorship and support continuing throughout the first year a new hire is with us.

Hillary and Danielle each had formative experiences during their initial days at Residential. Take a look at how each RN Case Manager embraced their onboarding experience.

Hillary's story

Hillary knew she wanted to be in healthcare since high school. Upon starting her career, she gained experience in both hospital and homecare settings but lacked a sense of belonging with previous employers.

When she was referred to Residential by a friend, she immediately felt at home here. “I knew from the minute I had my interview that this was the right fit for me. I knew I would be appreciated and be able to be myself as a very energetic and passionate nurse,” Hillary recalls fondly.

Orientation began with a comprehensive review of company policies, followed by training in essential nursing skills like Foley, wounds, and more. Hillary enjoyed the classroom time but was even more excited to discover that hands-on learning was included in orientation so that she could put her new knowledge to use and enhance her understanding. On top of these experiences, she had access to countless resources – from videos to documents and more. Best of all, Hillary discovered open lines of communication that left her feeling empowered and supported even when training felt difficult.

“Throughout my training I had my preceptor, supervisors, educators, and other nurses only a phone call away. Many called to check in on me often. I always appreciated being encouraged or lifted up in times of uncertainty, which was something very different than what I had experienced at any other nursing job prior,” emphasizes Hillary. “I had the best time at orientation. I didn't want it to end.”

Danielle's story

Danielle also knew she wanted to work in the healthcare field from a young age. In fact, she had the privilege of caring for elderly family members – an experience that boosted her confidence and solidified her interest in homecare.

Upon entering the field, she participated in a local nursing program with several area agencies. It was during this time that she first met members of the Residential team. In talking with them, Danielle heard glowing reviews about our culture and values. She immediately decided to shadow the homecare team before excitedly applying to join us.

Once her onboarding began, Danielle became even more confident in her decision and comfortable within her new community. “What is unique to Residential is the culture that leadership has created,” she insists. “The best resource during my orientation was my preceptor and education staff. They were knowledgeable, patient, kind, and encouraged questions. I could call my preceptor at any point in time for questions – if she was with a patient, I would call my supervisor or educator, all of whom were so helpful.”

Creating these lasting connections was a pivotal moment for Danielle, but she also remembers other important information provided during orientation. Specifically, she was introduced to the many professional opportunities available for her to advance her career. “There is a host of education available to you on the portal. Residential supports nurses who want to obtain certifications that benefit their knowledge,” Danielle proudly shares. “It’s a breath of fresh air to learn about all the ways that the company supports their employees.”
