Clinical Field Educator

The Clinical Field Educator helps first-year field clinicians cultivate their skills and knowledge in the field and classroom setting, improving field clinician efficiency and patient care. Primarily responsible for the training of new field clinicians during the 8-week orientation and secondarily responsible for assessing, develop, and implementing learning path support to first-year field clinicians. It is expected that the Clinical Field Educator travels to the field clinician and can provide patient care.
CLINICAL EDUCATOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Model all aspects of the field clinician position within the Clinical Field Educator’s licensure scope.
- Demonstrate adherence to all regulatory requirements and organization Policies and Procedures.
- Assess new field clinicians' current skills and knowledge through direct observation and feedback from preceptors and Virtual Clinical Educators.
- Facilitate performance-based learning pathway for fast-tracked field clinicians.
- Coach field clinicians on the fundamentals of the position in the field while providing patient care and in small meeting settings.
- Customize new field clinicians’ learning paths and create readiness or remediation plans to support the first year field clinician’s individual needs.
- Document new field clinicians’ weekly orientation progression noting identified needs, remediation plan implemented, and outcome.
- Submit documentation of new field clinician performance concerns to Clinical Field Staff Supervisor (CFSS) and Human Resources.
- Manage preceptor assignments and provide direction on their work with new field clinicians.
- Conduct orientation calls with CFSS and communicate the new field clinician’s or tenured field clinician’s readiness or remediation plans.
- Support preceptors in following the readiness or remediation plans.
- Evaluate and document new field clinician’s readiness for incremental independence for patient visits and coordinates caseload development during the 8-week orientation.
- Evaluate if new field clinician has met the requirements to graduate from the 8-week orientation. Prepare remediation plan if completion is delayed.
- Conduct hands-on clinical skill checks and joint visit evaluations as assigned to meet accreditation requirements.
- Seek out clinical skill opportunities, when possible, for skills that are not signed off as competent on the new field clinician’s Competency Checklist.
- Review, manage, and update new field clinician’s Competency Checklist throughout the orientation period.
- Use documentation/visit data, survey responses, and feedback from preceptor or CFSS to identify first year field clinicians who require field support.
- Evaluate learning needs of first year field clinicians requiring field support and develop remediation plan. Document support provided, plan implemented, and outcome.
CLINICAL EDUCATOR QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of three years’ clinical experience on this or related jobs in a hospital or healthcare facility is required;
Minimum of 1 year of Home Health and/or Hospice experience required;
Currently licensed to practice by the state in which he/she is providing services for the agency required;
CPR certification required;
Prior educational/training experience preferred;
Valid driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance required.
